7 August 2006:
Super 8 Motel, Grapevine, Texas
The meeting was called to
order at 7:30 by Robert Vick, Regional Executive.
Roll Call:
All Board members were present.
Minutes for June were
approved as written.
Reports
of Officers:
Treasurer’s
Report (John Dorety): Financials
were reviewed and approved.
Members
Report (Robey Clark, BoD):
Mr. Robey reports 890 members currently.
Rally
Report (Sasha Lanz, ARE): The
Saab Rally has been cancelled for insurance reasons.
Mr. Sewell could not come to an agreement with the SCCA
regarding the coverage amount.
The MADD Rally date has
been changed to October 14, and will be sponsored by Dodge.
The event will either start at Cat’s stadium (LaGrave
Field) or Billy Bob’s Texas.
Negotiations are under way to determine the site starting
place.
Another rally is currently
being planned for 2-3 weeks following the MADD Rally.
Texas Spokes has a member
with land suitable for a Rally Cross east of Austin.
The new course has been approved and the event is being
planned.
Solo
Report (Matt Lucas, ARE): Solo
had to cancel its participation in the Divisional Series due to lack
of member support. The region
will instead organize and run a Test and Tune to be held this Sunday
13th at TMS. This
event should serve as a great practice event for those members
planning to attend the Nationals at Heartland Park.
The asphalt at the new Nationals course is similar to the
surface on the Bus Lot at TMS. Approximately
40 entrants are expected at this event.
On November 19, a Solo
event at LaGrave is scheduled.
There seems to be ample room to set up two courses for the
expected 60 entrants.
Old
Business:
The 2007 race schedule was
discussed and reviewed by Robert Vick.
A discussion was made regarding moving the January 19/20 R/R
race at MSR-C to February or March to relieve some of the congestion
in the schedule. This
will remain a two day event with no official SCCA sanctioned test
day. Some discussion
was made about the rental of the club house at MSR as opposed to a
room at a nearby hotel for use as race headquarters.
The determination will be made after prices can be compared.
Robert Vick asked Robey
Clark for a proposed budget in advance for the first race since it
will happen so early in the year. The May 4/5/6 R/R/N will remain a
three day event. A
decision will be made later about keeping it as is or changing to an
R/N/N format. The Sept 15/16
R/R may change to Oct. 6/7. The
double regional was moved to avoid conflict with the Run-Offs;
however, National plans to move the Run-Offs back to September for
2007. Available dates will be
explored for the next meeting.
New
Business:
Robert Vick suggested the
formation of a committee to decide the feasibility of purchasing a
new tech trailer for Club Racing. With
Houston Region only running MSR-H and Lone Star Region only running
TWS, we will need our own trailer. Costs
to build a new trailer have been weighed against the cost of
transportation of a single trailer within the regions.
The September 2006 race is
on track because of significant early efforts by Lon and Joyce
McKinstry, but also because Don Howson agreed to serve as Race
Chairman for the event. Kudos
to these three for their very hard work.
Reb Folbre has agreed to
do welding repairs on our flag starter stand.
He has asked the region to sponsor his annual “Dog
Cremation” hot dog roast and Rally in exchange.
It was decided that this was a very fair trade-off.
New officers will be
needed next year to replace some positions.
Board members were asked to be thinking of region members to
serve on the Board next year.
