August Board Meeting Minutes

Texas Region, SCCA Board Meeting Minutes (not yet approved)

08 August 2005

The Board meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM by Chairman Sasha Lanz.  In the absence of the Secretary, Sasha will prepare the Minutes. Minutes of the June and July meetings had been previously distributed to the Board members, and they were approved per a motion by Sherrod/Spikes.

Treasurer’s Report: John Dorety distributed various financial reports. The Balance Sheet shows that we have assets of about $93,000.

Race Report

Dan Cashman: We are trying to work out a way to have a R/N/N in May 2006. The stewards don’t think the timing will work. But if a R/N will fit into two days, and a National into one day, why not all three in three days? Another question: can we attract enough Regional Cars (remember, Spec Miatas are now a National class)?

Reb Folbre: The Texas Region Christmas Super School will be held in December. $500 buys entry into all three days (classroom on Friday, track sessions Saturday and Sunday). There is on “one-school” option. It will be limited to 45 entrants. Motion (Sherrod/Spikes) to buy 2 SportsCar ads for $1000 for the school; the motion passed. The cutoff for paid entries will be 15 November. Dan asked Robert Vick to get a copy of the contract for December 2-3-4 with TMS. Someone mentioned possible sponsorship form Alara (sp?) Houston.

So the race plans are still: Double-Regional race in October, and a Double-School in December.

Rally Report

Sasha Lanz: The coop Rally on July 23 did not have enough entrants to make money. It can be staged again with little work.

Solo Report

Phil Osborne: The June Solo II had 167 entries, less than expected. The Divisional will be August 14 at Mineral Wells (125 are pre-registered).

Membership Report

Robey Clark: We have 923 members. Our meeting Wednesday will be at Hooters (Addison) from 7 to 9pm. Robey has offered a free beer to anyone who signs up to volunteer for the club; he will pay for it, then ask to be reimbursed. Announcements have been made via email, the newsletter, and on the website. The September 14 meeting will be at the Ruf facility in Addison. Robey would like to order some Grub Rustler t-shirts to sell. On the subject of elections, everyone at the meeting was challenged to bring five names of people who would be good as officers, Board members, or committee chairs. Then we will ask some of these people to step up and help run the club.

Mini-GP Report

Brian Sill: The Mini-GP at Terrell has been cancelled by the Lions Club. Dan Sherrod remarked that our best move might be to accept the Plano Lions Club offer and drop the others. That might help solve our worker problems.

Divisional Roundtable Report

Sasha Lanz: The SRO Committee will not accept the Publicity Chairman as eligible for worker points, even if this person works on the day of the event. Nor will they allow the Region to buy SRO points and award them to people they feel deserve them. There is currently $44,000 available for SRO awards and worker recruitment. Dan Sherrod: Publicity may fall under Race Control, which is an eligible function. Also, the original plan for SRO included a provision to buy SRO points, so this may not be decided.

It was noted that we need a new person to handle Course Marshal at the races.

The meeting was adjourned at about 9:00.

Respectfully submitted, Sasha Lanz, acting Secretary.
